HOW WE GOT HERE

The process that our district, stakeholders, and community members went through to reach the point we are at today.

In fall of 2021, the Henning Public School District began to look at addressing major facility needs and the future educational needs of our students. During this process, the district sought the community’s input to develop a building improvement plan to meet those needs.

  • The district retained PreK-12 planning firm ICS to conduct a series of assessments, including a detailed building assessment, an educational adequacy study, a demographic analysis to determine enrollment trends, and a series of listening sessions.

  • The district also engaged Ehlers, Inc. to provide an external review of the district’s finances and the available funding tools.

  • The district held several community listening sessions throughout 2022 where teachers and staff, administrators, school board members, high school students, civic groups, and residents offered input on what the plan should prioritize and achieve.

The district presented voters with two bond referendums in November 2022 and May 2023 that sought to address the needs of our school building.

Voters rejected both referendums, but the needs of our school remain. Now, district leaders are reexamining priorities for future investment, including the possibility of a school board-approved investment plan to begin addressing deferred maintenance and other critical repairs.
